Best Carving Design Contest

We’re looking for talented individuals to share their original creations. Participants compete for valuable prizes and earn the opportunity to become Woodcarving Illustrated’s next new contributor.

Enter as many projects as you wish, but entries must be your original designs. Projects cannot have been previously entered in a WCI-sponsored contest.

Finalists from each category will be posted on the WCI website. Each category, as well as the Best in Contest Award, will have two winners: one chosen by the editors and one chosen by the online community. All entries are eligible for the Best in Contest Awards. Entries will be posted on our website for public voting. Depending on the number of entries, it may not be possible to have all entries posted on the website.

Category winners receive:

  • $50 Fox Books Gift Certificate
  • WCI T-shirt
  • Commemorative Contest Pin
 Best in Contest Winners receive:

  • Category prize package PLUS
  • $50 Cash
  • Autographed Fox Chapel Book

Entry deadline is June 30, 2010

Artists retain all copyrights, but consent to having a pattern of their project published in WCI. Entries will be acknowledged, but photos and materials received will not be returned. Please do not submit original artwork.

 CONTEST RULES:

  • Projects must be your original design and cannot be altered versions of existing patterns by another designer.
  • Projects can be hand or power carved and can be finished naturally or with paint.
  • Projects must be able to be made from commonly available wood.

  • Include the name of anyone who contributed to the carving, including instructors or spouses.
  • Projects cannot have been previously entered in a WCI-sponsored contest.

TO ENTER:
Submit the following information:

  • Category of entry

  • Clear photographs of your work from multiple views
  • Information on the project size and types of wood used
  • Information on special construction or finishing methods, including add-ons
  • Your name, address, phone number, and e-mail address
Categories include:
RELIEF, REALISTIC, CARICATURE, CHIP CARVING, SANTA, STYLIZED, JUNIOR CARVER (16yrs.+under)
