Daryl Korpela’s stylized carving started out as a block of wood that had been sitting in his shop for several years.
“She started out roughly from a picture of a Native American singer sitting with a wrap over her shoulders,” Daryl explained. “Through the process of what I call ‘creative evolution’ she became a maiden sitting by the water.”
Daryl carved the figure out of black walnut. The piece is 161/2″ tall, 41/2″ wide, and 41/2″ thick. The carving was finished with two coats of gloss spray.
